For those of you who missed this Half-Life mod, Natural Selection was a very unique game mixing RTS (Real Time Strategy) building and technology advancement with an FPS (First Person Shooter). Currently the community for this game has mostly emptied out, there are still a few servers up and running with a loyal user base. Natural Selection has two game modes; classic, and combat. Many people blame combat for natural selection's loss of population because of the fast game play which removed the RTS section of the game. With games like World of Warcraft debuting and taking in record numbers of players including myself the natural selection community shrank. Now that I've come back and almost everyone who i used to play the game with has moved on its good to see that there are still a few communities that survived.
There is good news on the horizon, Natural Selection 2 will be coming out soon and the developers have made sure to leave combat out this time. Combat was fun and i play it a lot because of the lack of good commanders left in the community but its really not what Natural Selection was about. This project has been in the works for a long time and the wheels have kept turning the whole time. I am hoping to see a beta late this year or early next year, because they have already been able to release an alpha version of the game. If this peaks any ones interest in trying the first Natural Selection to see if you might like the second one and are looking for a good server i suggest the Brawr Server (8.9.36.162) http://www.brawr.net/communication/index.php.
As long as you own the original half-life or one of the mod packages i think will even work you can download Natural Selection for free. If you do end up trying the game out and wanna stop in to the Brawr Server and say hi, i use the handle MooTheNinja.
